You know you're from a small town if half a dozen people walk up to you hours after your aunt broadcasted your day-old blog via radio to all of southwest Minnesota.
Lori, ever-the-proud aunt, called me around 9:30 a.m. today shortly after she had announced to the world -- OK, a small corner of Minnesota -- that her niece had created a blog and that she was a good writer (her opinion). She had made me famous.
My aunt talks on a local radio station a few times a week to boast about our town. Sometimes she shares personal stories, other times she brags about how great it is to live in a small town. Today, she used my blog as fodder for her 10 minutes with the mike (she actually uses a telephone). She read the blog, tying it into senior awards for those graduating from high school. They, like me, are in the middle, waiting for the next big thing.
Three hours after the show, a few cafe patrons asked me about the blog and this upcoming D.C. venture. One town personality said, "So you're a writer." Lori said one guy who was driving by her store this morning had listened to the show. He heard about the blog, and my underwear scattered on the floor.
Yep, it's great living in a small town.
P.S. Lori -- now you're famous.
