Run like the wind, Part II
I attended a funeral for a recently retired McClatchy receptionist yesterday. I met her only a few months ago, but she was one of the kindest spirits I've ever known.
On my first day of work, she hugged me as soon as I walked into the office. It's the best welcome I've ever gotten at a new job. She was full of compliments and praise. She shared pumpkin muffins with me once -- she knew I loved muffins.
She made it a tradition to take interns to church with her. She was religious, and it came through in her generosity and good will. Even though I was invited, I never made it to church with her before she retired. I felt bad about this, but still believed I might get the chance.
I never thought that chance would come like this. But on Monday, I finally went to her church. It was a Gospel church -- full of physical and loud, vocal praising. I almost jumped from my pew to shout "Hallelujah."
Yes, funerals are sad. But I couldn't mourn her death. I could only be happy and appreciate the short time I knew her.
I know she's in a better place.

I have some good news to share. Today I learned that I will be continuing my internship through the end of May. This will simplify life. But it's also a very, very exciting time to be a journalist in Washington.

Brady! Through May? That's soooo long. DC is your second (third?) home now! Congrats.
