The 40-day withdrawal has begun

I'm Catholic, it's Lent and I'm giving up candy.

I didn't make it to Mass yesterday -- it was Ash Wednesday. I had even found a church nearby that I'm going to attend (if I'm ever in D.C. on the weekend), but the holy day kind of snuck up on me.

Every year I give up something. It usually falls into the sweets category. This time excluding candy from my diet will be extra extra hard. I sit next to the communal candy dish at work, and it's full of goodies to get me through the day. I'm hoping this'll help my figure for the wedding. But I'll probably reach for the salty snacks instead.

Are you giving anything up this year? Why or why not? And if you are giving something up, what might that something be? My friend and fellow blogger asked the same questions. Yes, I'm copying her, and it's OK. Start commenting already.

I'm trying to give up digging in the two evil candy dishes that sit less than ten feet from my cube at work. I'm also trying to give up fast food. At least until the half marathon is over.

I was raised Catholic, but all this abstaining from good (good!!) stuff is just to lose weight and get in shape for the race. It's not at all Lent related.
