My source of inspiration

I just got off the phone with my dearest pal who inspires me almost every day. Before I started typing, I told her that there was no need to read this post because it wouldn't be worth much. In the seconds between hanging up with her and typing, I realized I had a pretty damn good topic: I could write about the people who inspire me.

She's one of them. Any time I feel lazy or ultra dumb, I think about her and others who are intellectually curious (a phrase she uses) and self-driven. I try to surround myself with these people. Their positive vibes and go-get-'em attitude rubs off.

I talked to another person tonight, who is also a journalist, for the first time. I had corresponded with him via blog comments once or twice. I knew of him, but I didn't know him. Tonight, we talked for an hour about my job search and his pursuit of freelancing. This guy is such a self-starter, and he recently launched a citizen journalism-driven blog with a hyper-local edge. It has real potential. He had the idea and went with it. He didn't dawdle or second-guess. He acted.

Damn admirable.

A lot of people -- and I'm one of them -- will have a brilliant idea that they abandon all too quickly, without letting it come to any fruition.

Not them. They go for it. And that's inspiring.
