The big decision
We didn't take the plunge.
We've decided to rent instead of buy our first home. We arrived at this decision in the wee hours Sunday after a weekend packed with looking at houses. While we're not keen on putting money into a place that we'll never own, this is the right decision for us.
Why did we go this route?
We found two homes that we liked, but as Ben did the math and we talked to more people, we realized buying would be a bad choice. It's true that it's a buyer's market, but not for buyers who are uncertain who long they'll be in Minneapolis. And if we have to sell in a few years, we may come out behind.
So we're going to rent, and I feel at ease with this decision. Although Ben and I are very much "head" people, I tend to listen to my gut, too. And my gut told me "not yet."
We'll buy someday, but not yet. And that's just fine with us.

Sounds like you made a well-thought out decision. An article in the NYTimes today sure backed your gut feeling, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/11/realestate/11leonhardt.html
